Fragrance is a key driver of consumer perception in cleaning products. However, incorporating hydrophobic fragrance oils into aqueous formulations remains challenging due to limits in solubilization, clarity, and compatibility. Conventional solubilizers such as polysorbates and hydrogenated castor oil ethoxylates often require high use levels, increasing formulation complexity and potentially affecting performance.
This study evaluates a novel polymeric ester blend developed as a multifunctional fragrance solubilizer for water-based cleaning formulations. Across a panel of representative fragrance oils, the ingredient delivered fragrance solubilization capacity several times higher than traditional benchmarks while maintaining formulation clarity well over a broad pH range of 4 to 9, demonstrating strong formulation robustness across multiple applications.
Beyond solubilization, the ingredient provided measurable additional cleaning benefits. In laundry detergents, it improved detergency by at least 20% across a wide array of both oily and particulate soils. In hard surface cleaners, complete soil removal was achieved much faster, indicating improved cleaning kinetics. In manual dishwashing liquid formulations, efficacy was also significantly improved, confirming multifunctional performance across diverse cleaning systems.
These results show that this new solubilizer overcomes key limitations of conventional technologies while enhancing both fragrance delivery and cleaning performance, enabling more effective and robust cleaning formulations.
